Introduction
Being an up-and-coming artist is one of the most tiring and stressful parts of any artist's career. You don't have the funds or the network to hire people to help you in your quest. One has to be the jack of all trades: from producing beats to writing lyrics, vocals, and video production. It's akin to building a Bugatti on a VW budget.
Project Brief
The project's objective is to create a lyric music video for South African up-and-coming artist Kiid Speedy. It is a combination of typography and static imagery to convey the essence of the music's narrative and mood. Using his song "Menace" first verse and chorus.
Menace Explained
Released in November 2023, "Menace" is a song about venting and self-reflection. It was created when the artist's relationships were falling apart and he was relieved that he was at fault.ย
The Conceptย
My concept is centered on the symbolism of the snake and its toxic nature. It shows how it's important to look through the journey of what leads to us making the decision we are currently making through our daily lives.
Color Palletsย
This color pallet draws inspiration from his cover art and the Imagine Dragon "Sharks" music video. The background consists of a Bluish Cyan with aย Prussian Blueย changing to a Oxford Blueย hue Deep Cove. Showing the change of his character through this journey. The Lemon Chiffon for the lyrics not only contrasts the blue but also shows the different ways one can change character from a slow change (blue background) to a more sudden change just by clicking the lyrics. The Forest Green also contrasts the Night Black with the as the black is the color of the people in the video and the green is the color of the toxins.ย
The Fontย
For the font I decided to just stick to Gabarito font, it's a nice and clean font that was designed to help young people learn and overcome the university entry exams knows as "vestibular".
